The Next Big Thing Blog Hop

Welcome to the current stop on The Next Big Thing Blog Hop!

*Cue train whistle*  🙂

Thank you Karis Walsh for tagging me and giving me the opportunity to talk about my new book!

The blog hop’s purpose is to introduce readers to writers that perhaps they haven’t heard of, whether it’s a new release – or a work in progress (WIP). This is week 28.

According to the rules of the hop, I will be answering questions (the same ones for every other blog hopper) about my new release. At the bottom of my post I’ll “tag” two more authors who will do the same thing next week on their blogs Wednesday, January 9, 2013.

Ready?

What is the working title of your book?
The Awakening: Book One in the Sisters of Spirits Trilogy.

Where did the idea come from for the book?
Well, I’m putting myself out there, but I have to tell you that I’m addicted to the paranormal shows. It was after watching a whole day of reruns of the show Psychic Kids in the summer of 2011 that planted the seeds. I couldn’t help but relate to the kids who struggled with their gifts. It had me wondering what happened to them when they got older.

What genre does your book fall under?
Paranormal.

Which actors would you choose to play your characters in a movie rendition?
I know that readers get their own pictures of the characters as I do when I read – but in all honesty, I couldn’t think of anyone else but Kate Hudson for Sunny Skye. From there, of course, I had to cast Goldie as Aura. I’m a very visual person, so I like to have a face in front of me as I write. The pictures go up on a bulletin board.

What is the one sentence synopsis of your book?
When spiritualism and skepticism collide – who back down first?

What is the longer synopsis of your book?
Sunny Skye, a psychic medium, is the head investigator and founder of Sisters of Spirits, a paranormal society dedicated to helping others understand what they can’t see. She is excellent at finding ghosts but finds it difficult to cope in the real world. When she meets Jordan, she is instantly attracted and completely unnerved by the personal demons she carries around with her.
Street tough Jordan Lawson molded herself into what she thinks an excellent cop should be. She trusts only two things: facts and herself. She believes only in the evil that mankind commits and she certainly doesn’t believe in ghosts, even when confronted by one.

Will your book be self-published of represented by an agency?
The Awakening, as well as my first book, Sometime Yesterday, are published by Bold Strokes Books.

How long did it take you to write the first draft of your manuscript?
The first draft and second draft took about five months to complete for The Awakening.

Who or What inspired you to write this book?
Well, as I said, I wondered what happened to those psychic kids when they grew up. I was intrigued by the idea of three friends who not only kicked ass in the paranormal department, but that each had their own set of gifts and challenges they brought to the table. The idea of a series was born last year when I was going through edits for Sometime Yesterday.

What else about your book might pique the reader’s interest?
The characters have very real histories and life events that present themselves in a personal way. I think that it has a little for everyone; some good old fashioned chills, romance, and intrigue. And who could resist sexy ghost hunters? Not me 🙂

Now it’s time for me to tag two more authors in The Next Big Thing Blog Hop! Be sure and check them out next Wednesday, January 9, 2013.
Lynn Ames and Rebekah Weatherspoon, both whom are award winning authors, were kind enough to let me pass the torch to them 🙂

Yvonne likes to describe herself as being a charismatic and amusing Libra Goddess. On some days she writes like a fiend, but admits that other days, she's just as content to wrap up in a blanket and cuddle with her dogs while watching "one more episode." on Netflix. In between those, she's managed to be a three-time Golden Crown Literary Award winner for Best Paranormal, Lambda Literary Award Finalist, and both a Rainbow Award winner and finalist.
